"Don't make the mistake of treating your dogs like humans, or they'll treat you like dogs" Martha Scott

A dog should be active and playful, responsive to commands and eager to join in with family activities. It's normal for dogs to be a little cautious sometimes, and to bark to announce newcomers and this is nothing to be worried about. However, your dog should be sociable with dogs and people, curious, happy-go-lucky, alert, exploratory, patient, responsive to food and affectionate.  If this describes your dog, then you can congratulate yourself on owning a stable and happy animal.

Dog behavioural problems:-

If you're reading this though, it's more likely that your dog is exhibiting unwanted or anti-social behaviour. But did you know that you, or your handling of the situation, may be causing the problem?

What's involved?

Ideally I will visit with the dog and owners in the environment where the problem occurs. Often, dogs behave very differently in different situations.

My initial assessment consultation lasts approximately 2 hours.  Following on from this meeting I will design a behaviour modification plan that you can implement yourself, offering guidance regarding the dog's management and subsequent treatment.

So, if your dog is hyperactive, jumps on people, is disobedient; if he pulls on the lead, won't come back when called, is overly fearful, if he barks excessively or 'doesn't like' dogs or humans, is territorial or possessive of toys, chews furniture or wants to compulsively retrieve, then why not call me?

Cost

I cover the area of Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Private Behaviour Consultations within 10 miles of central Cardiff cost £95 for a two hour session (mileage may be applicable to visits further than 10 miles from central Cardiff).

Please note that one-to-one training and follow up consultations and consultations for aggressive dogs vary. It should also be noted for that, for certain types of aggression, there may not be a 'cure' as such and the problem might require long-term management.

Although with more serious behavioural problems follow up consultations may be required, for many of my clients just one visit with some support via the telephone is sufficient.
